Luxulyan Valley Heritage Restoration Project
This project was put on hold in early 2019. The Luxulyan Valley Partnership meets regularly. Contact the Friends of Luxulyan Valley or the Parish Council for more information.
Luxulyan Valley is a dramatic, heavily wooded, steep sided valley close to St Blazey, through which the River Par flows. The Valley retains an industrial and natural heritage of international and national importance and was designated as part of the World Heritage Site in 2006.
Stunning Luxulyan Valley will undergo major conservation work with a Heritage Lottery Fund Development Grant. See more information on the Cornwall Council website.
The valley’s mining heritage represents principally the physical manifestation of one man’s vision Joseph Treffry (1782-1850) to exploit the valley’s mineral resources. Remains include the Treffry Viaduct, granite mine buildings and the later 20th century concrete structures, leats, tramways, mineshafts, adits and an impressive waterwheel pit. Significantly, both copper mining and then the later china clay processing industry are represented side-by-side.
HLF grant for Luxulyan Valley Heritage Restoration Project
Cornwall's stunning Luxulyan Valley, part of the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site, is set to undergo major conservation work. A heritage Lottery Fund development grant means that Cornwall Council and Cornwall Heritage Trust can progress plans for extensive conservation and interpretation of the valley's industrial and natural heritage which will include restoring the Treffry Viaduct to working order.
Central to the plans is a programme of activities to encourage more and different people to visit the valley, create opportunities for family learning and local schools and for local people to be involved in a range of inspiring training and volunteering opportunities.
